A Tile Trend That's Hard To Resist

I tend to shy away from anything that is too much of a trend, whether it's fashion, interiors, or food. I hate to be seen as a follower and I always like to put my own spin on things. Of course it's impossible to completely avoid it, because let's face it, so many of our choices are led by what we see in the press, magazines, big brand ad campaigns etc, whether we are aware of it or not.

BUT, there are trends I absolutely refuse to be a part of, seen frequently in social media. Case in point, you will never catch me posting photos on Instagram of my food, shot from above, artfully arranged, with hands in the shot. It's tempting, but no. Save it for a cookbook. Nor will I post "shoe-selfies". You know what I'm talking about: that shot of my stylish new shoes, cutely pigeon-toed, on a pretty tiled floor? No. I did it once or twice and immediately felt deep shame for jumping on the bandwagon. I will not be using coloured washi tape or gold polka dot stickers on my walls or wooden letters that spell out LOVE over my bed. When I start to see these things and more in every magazine and Pinterest board, I cringe. (Ok, rant over).

However, one trend that I would feel no shame in following can be seen in these bathrooms. The fresh white, raw wood, concrete, and industrial elements paired with the encaustic tiles is stunning. I might even be tempted to eat my words and shoot a shoe-selfie on those floors.

Writing my book, Modern Rustic has had a big influence on my personal style in interiors, elevating it from a mish-mash of styles and colours to a more refined, but still eclectic look. That's what I love about these rooms - they perfectly blend different elements of rustic, modern, and vintage, for a finish that is fresh, stylish, and personal. 

Whether I buy a house in London (unlikely - have you seen the prices?) or go back to Los Angeles in a couple of years and buy a new house there, this look will be high on my list, not just for the bathroom, but for the whole house. What do you think? Is this a trend you can get on board with?
