Pattern Mix

I've been a bit rubbish lately about new posts. I'm of the mind-set that I won't blog just for the sake of it, only if I've got something of value to share with you, the reader. There's enough mindless chatter out there as it is. Lately my sharing would have involved whining about how busy I am and no-one wants to hear it do they?

So, on a more interesting note...

I love the clean lines of this fireplace contrasted with the eclectic mix of pillows and rug.

And am I mad for thinking this candy-striped, green-painted chaise would round out the look to perfection?

With a neutral backdrop (here the stark white fireplace) and a colour story that sticks to 3 or 4 main colours (here red, green, brown) you can mix it up pattern-wise and not look too crazy. Or at least look intentionally, stylishly crazy. Your backdrop could be white or dark paint, panelled wood walls, it doesn't really matter. But keeping it less busy is what makes it work.

Now if only I could get this look right in my own mad, jumble of a house.

  2. You are right, I think that chaise would be just right in that room, to soften off the starkness of the modern open fire. Nice.

Feel free to write me a note - I love getting them. It's a bit like getting an old-fashioned letter in the post. Thanks! x
